KINGSTOWN, St Vincent — Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is reportedly using his gravitas to sway CARICOM electoral votes at the Organisation of American States (OAS) against the re-election of secretary-general Luis Almagro.
Following congratulatory message to the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) on their recent victory at the polls, prime minister Gonsalves said on a local radio programme, that he is encouraging all CARICOM leaders to vote against Almagro and disclosed that he had another candidate in mind for the position.
“There is an election for a new secretary-general in March and I’m urging all Caribbean leaders, not to vote for Almagro. I’m suggesting a candidate,” Gonsalves said.
“I have written the CARICOM leaders already. I wrote them and if I have to take the lead on it, I’ll take the lead on it and as you know, when I take the lead on something, I take the lead. I don’t know whether I’m going to succeed but I can’t sit back.”
“We can’t have Almagro remaining at the OAS”, he remarked.
“My mother teach [ed] me good manners you know, so I’ll meet him, I’ll be friendly with him.” However, “I don’t like what he’s done to the OAS and I don’t like how he’s seeking to implement a neoliberal agenda, don’t like it at all; so I have to fight against that in the interest of the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the region. I’m sorry. That is the position, he said.
Prime minister Gonsalves, previously commented that the Organization of American States (OAS) and its secretary-general [Luis] Almagro “are enemies of the democratic and progressive forces of our continent.”
His comments followed the United Workers Party (UWP) actions and that of affiliated groups, seem to follow a sequence very similar to the strategy used in Bolivia that culminated in performing a coup d’etat on behalf of “democracy.”
“If they believe the elections are held unconstitutionally, they can go to court,” Gonsalves stated, relying on his legal knowledge, that they will not possibly be taken seriously because “these elections are conducted properly.”
Sir Ronald Sanders, ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States and the Organisation of American States, in his weekly commentary, outlined double standards in the OAS.
“Double standards have become the new system in the (OAS). This unwholesome development does not portend well for the future of the Organization which is increasingly becoming a rubber stamp for the will of a few governments. It also creates a huge cloud over the bilateral relations of nations within the hemisphere.”
Prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit has likewise accused the OAS of attempting to add another overseas-funded coup to its tally sheet, took the OAS secretary-general to task for “leading a campaign” of incitement against the Dominica Labour Party, (DLP).
“The OAS has made interference statements against Venezuela, Cuba, and Bolivia, which appear to be a replica of Washington’s standard discourse against leftist governments”, Skerrit noted.
“The OAS is targeting certain member states. Dominica is one such country that they’re targeting, and my government is one such government that they are targeting. So, it is not about free and fair elections — it is not about the electoral process. They (OAS) have waited for this opportunity to implement this strategy, so, it is something that has been in the making for three or four years,” Skerrit said.
However, against all odds thru the UWP, the provision of the Washington-based Organization of American States (OAS), the Electoral Reform Effort Group, internal and external insurgency, the DLP led by prime minister Skerrit secured a major victory on December 6, winning 18 out of the 21 constituencies in the general elections.
The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS/EOM) present for the general elections of December 6, congratulated the people of Dominica on their peaceful and enthusiastic participation in the electoral process.
Notable, prime minister Gonsalves “no vote” campaign and “the OAS double standards” merit prime minister Skerrit before the elections suggested that the secretary-general of the OAS “should be fired, implying that the OAS has lost its way”. He articulated that, “the OAS mantra about free and fair elections has become a formal justification for undercutting democracy and toppling non-conforming governments to make way for US-backed political parties.”

It looks like Ralph Gonsalves, Gaston Browne, and Roosevelt Skerrit are trying to institute a left-wing coup at the OAS.
It will fail, of course, because most of the member states are headed by neo-liberal governments.

For Gonsalves to keep referring to democracy is absolute scumbaggery. To then refer to trying to destroy OAS General Secretary Luis Almagro in the name of Saint Vincent is nonsense, he is trying to destroy him as an agent of Cuba and Venezuela. His coming stint in the UN Security Council is also as an agent of Cuba and Venezuela. Saint Vincent does not need to be at the Security Council, the whole State of SVG is less than a 120,000 men, women and children, no bigger than a large village or a small town in the real world. There is no way SVG could afford financially to sit on the Council, but Cuba and Venezuela are paying, he is their agent.

When vote rigging was exposed by the NDP in SVG, the Gonsalves regime have done everything they could to frustrate the coming to court of the complant, it has taken 4 years and still has not been satisfied. So taking any kind of advice from this man should be discounted
The CARICOM leaders should also be reminded that Gonsalves is an agent for Cuba and Venezuela.
They know that Sandra because several of the leaders at CARICOM are also acting for CUBA and VENEZUELA. Cuba and Venezuela own most of the ALBA leaders, they are under their total control.
